Formula1: Hamilton out in Q1: Button on pole #formula1 #F1

May 23rd, 2009 Comments off

Hamilton walks back to the pitsA despondent Lewis Hamilton walks back to the pits after slamming his McLaren into the barrier after he lost the back end of the car on the entrance to the Mirabeau corner.  Earlier in the day Hamilton had said during an interview that he felt the back of the car was light and he was having a hard time keeping it under control. We get it, Windows means cheap hardware #mac #tech

May 18th, 2009 Comments off

One of the most rational piece’s on the “I’m a Mac” vs “Laptop Hunter” ad series that I’ve read.  Aron does a great job of analyzing the ads, their intention and their real message.  Nice to see this topic discussed in a way that avoids the finger pointing, name calling and hair pulling of others (yours truly probably included).

Intel: A CPU in Every Pocket by 2011 #tech #iphone #smartphone

May 17th, 2009 Comments off

One of things you have to trade off as a tech vendor is what you share with your partners & customers and what you keep secret.  Apple is at one end of the spectrum with their legendary secrecy.  Intel might be thinking about taking a page from their book as their small form-factor CPU roadmap for the next two years gets leaked to the press.   Read more…

Obama to boldly screen Star Trek in the White House? #StarTrek

May 10th, 2009 Comments off

Our friends over at SciFi Wire have a great story about President Obama beaming a screening of the new Star Trek movie directly into the White House.

I knew I liked this guy. Sane, rational, eloquent, humanitarian and a Trekker to boot! What’s not to like?

Button on pole again in Spain: Formula 1

May 9th, 2009 Comments off

This season couldn’t be going better for Jenson Button and the Brawn GP team. Button takes pole position in Barcelona making it his 3rd time in the front spot out of 5 races. It’s incredible to think that just weeks before the start of the season it was very uncertain whether Jenson would have a driving contract or even if the Brawn GP team would exist.

More information about Jenson and this season can be found at the Formula 1 site.

HypnoCube – Pretty Electronic Basket Weaving

May 9th, 2009 Comments off

Meet HypnoCube! I first saw a version of this device online about a year ago. It was put together by some folks in Japan I believe and if my failing memory serves me I think it was an 8x8x8 matrix. Anywho, a couple of bright sparks in the US have productized it and offer for sale in two forms. One fully assembled (and a bit pricey but cheap considering how much effort goes into making one) and the electronic equivilent of a basket weaving kit. The kit arrived today. I’m off to Fry’s to buy a magnifier and the right kind of solder. Let the basket weaving begin! I’ll keep you post on my progress (big assumption there!).

Apple Adds Chinese Handwriting. Could this be more proof of a Mac tablet?

May 8th, 2009 Comments off

apple-logo-thumb.pngThere have been rumors flying around for months (if not years) about the “soon the be released” Apple tablet computer.  The closest we’ve come so far to actually getting such a device has been the iPhone.  Portable, connected and pretty full featured, internet-wise and built on the cult of the Newton..  However at heart, it’s still a phone (albeit a frakkin amazing one! – yes, Fanboi – yawn). Apple storms the UK!

May 8th, 2009 Comments off

OK, call me a fanboi if you like but data is data and it’s hard to argue with numbers like these.

PC sales in the UK slid by 5.1% in the first quarter of 2009 while Apple’s sales grew by 6.6% during that same time. This trend really puts into question Microsoft’s whole premise that Macs are too expensive for the average guy/gal (whoever they are). Surely if that were the case Microsoft would have gained market share based on the sale of cheap netbooks. Not so. Read more…

The faceBook app for Windows Mobile is finally released. There are a ton of reviews of it out there so I won’t try to repeat them or paraphrase. I guess really all you need to do is take a look (click the images for a closer look). WinMob on the left vs iPhone on the right. Which would you chose? (PS. I’m not a PC!)

Certs Ain’t What They Used To Be

May 6th, 2009 Comments off

Security is based on trust and vigilance. Two things not so easy to come by in the computer industry. One answer to this that seemed to make a lot of sense at the time was the use of digital certificates (certs). Certs were meant to give the user confidence that the server they thought they were connecting to was indeed the one that they were connected to. It seems that the vigilance part of certs is waning badly. Read more…
