The Beginning of the End for the Motion Picture Business?

Anyone who messed around with POV in the 80s will be familiar with ray-tracing. A CPU intensive process that yielded amazing results for those with the talent to craft it’s arcane language and the patience to wait for hours as each frame was rendered. For those reasons it didn’t catch on with anyone other than the Pixar’s of this world who have since honed the technology into an incredibly useful tool.
It’s CPU intensive nature always made it a poor choice for gaming above rendering the inevitable cut scenes. Now a San Francisco start up looks to be set to change that and bring photo-realistic graphics to us in real time.
