Kindle II now just “Mini Me” to Amazon’s new Kindle DX

May 6th, 2009

The newspaper business has been in trouble for a while. Unable to keep up with the changes in internet technology and the switch in reader’s behavior about how they want to get their news. Their subscriber base has eroded dramatically.

Amazon might be a white knight for the press boys. They have released a new version of their Kindle e-book reader just 4 months after the last refresh which significantly redesigned the device vastly improving usability. The New Kindle DX not only has a larger screen, but now also supports reading in landscape mode with autorotation as the user turns the device. This makes reading “wide” content such a newspaper layout much easier and more like the paper-based experience we’re all used to.

Rumored that it will be offered by content providers at a reduced price with long term subscription services, the Kindle DX retails today for a steep $489.
