Button does it again! Wins Spanish Formula 1 GP #F1

May 10th, 2009

Jenson Button must be the happiest man in motor racing this weekend. He picked up another 10 championship points after a spectacular win at the Circuit de Catalunya, his 4th win out of the 5 races run so far this season.

The Spanish GP at Barcelona got off to a dramatic start on Sunday in nearly 110 degree track temps as Trulli got pushed off track during the first lap, taking out a good part of the back of the field when he spun back on in front of oncoming cars. Both Toro Rosso cars took each other out of the race trying desperately to avoid the melee all around them. The race continued under the safety car for the next 4 laps.

Alonso, in front of his home crowd, exhibited his usual border-line dangerous driving in lap 7 by driving onto the grass to overtake Mark Webber, only to have the move backfire on him as Webber retook the position seconds later.

The Brawn GP team yet again showed their 2009 season dominance right from the start of the race easily pulling away from Massa’a Ferrari which has made substantial performance improvements since its last outing in Bahrain but still suffering badly from reliability and team execution issues as Massa ran almost out of fuel after being pushed hard by Vettel, having to slow his pace considerably for the last 4 laps of the race.

Button’s win in Spain leaves him with 41 championship points, 14 ahead of his second place team mate Barricello, lapping current world champion Hamilton just 2 laps from the end.

The McLaren’s of Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen continue to struggle to find their previously unstoppable form.

    It’s 10 points for a win, not 12…
And Alonso was pushed in the grass by Webber, whose driving was dangerous, not Alonso… I’m no fan of Alonso but on this one, he didn’t do anything wrong. Great driving by both…

Im going to have you proof read all my posts from now on BB. :) Thanks for catching the typo. I think I’d have given Button 20 pts if I could! I deleted the race from TiVo but when I was watching it sure looked like our Spanish friend was just determined to get past Webber no matter what. Kind of in keeping with his general finesse-free style under prssure. If Webber did move over on him then you bet the stewards will be having their fun again… @ESLKid75
