Another bad day for #Microsoft – Apps in tights!
First they have the Danger/Sidekick user data loss and now I’m sure their branding police are going to be hiding under their desks with the release of a ridiculous TV ad that confuses the crap out of their new “brainchild” – Windows Phone.
Windows Phone is meant to be the new brand for what was Windows Mobile for phone type devices. It’s an old marketing trick. If a product stinks, change the name and hope no body will catch on. It rarely works, however the execution here is so diabolical that it’s laughable. Not only does the piece give the impression that the “Windows Phone” is an actual device by associating the name and logo with an HTC unit but it dives right into “Creepsville” with a bunch of app icons prancing around in tights. Just who are they trying to reach here? I for one am not open to having a man-size Twitter logo follow me around all day.
Microsoft marketing has really jumped the shark over the last two years. From those god-awful Gates/Seinfeld spots which patronized their customers as “real people” to the horrendous but thankfully short lived “laptop hunter” ads that again treated us like morons by trying to have us believe that “Lauren” was just plucked out of the parking lot!
Come on Redmond. Is this really the best you can do?
Windows Phone commercial is confusing for a variety of reasons.
